ACCSCT Appoints New School Commissioner

April 28, 2008

 

In April 2008, in accordance with the nomination and appointment process outlined in the Commission’s Bylaws, Section 1.04, and as previously announced to the ACCSCT membership, the ACCSCT Nominating Committee put forth three (3) candidates to be interviewed by the full-Commission for the appointment of a vacant School Commissioner seat. 

Upon conclusion of the interview process, the Commission voted to appoint Allan Sharpe of Western Technical College located in El Paso, Texas to fill the final ACCSCT School Commissioner vacancy.

ACCSCT Election:  Membership Elects School Commissioners

April 4, 2008

In February 2008, in accordance with the nomination and election process outlined in the Commission’s Bylaws, ACCSCT provided information to the membership on its website, www.accsct.org, to facilitate an election in order to fill three (3) existing School Commissioner vacancies on the Commission. Subsequently, ACCSCT mailed the ballot materials to the ACCSCT membership for the purpose of this general election. 

All votes have been recorded and the Commission is pleased to announce that

  • Susan B. Johnson of the Gemological Institute of America;
  • Rick Saliba of Platt College/Oklahoma Health Academy; and
  • Beth Wilson of Corinthian Colleges, Inc.

have been elected by the ACCSCT membership to serve as School Commissioners. Their respective terms as School Commissioners will begin on July 1, 2008.

Webinar:   Developing and Implementing Institutional Improvement Plans

 January 3, 2008

On November 19, 2007, Christopher Lambert, ACCSCT’s Associate Director of Commission Relations, participated in the State of Wisconsin Educational Approval Board’s (EAB) Annual Conference.  As part of the conference activities, Lambert delivered a Key Note Presentation which focused on developing and implementing institutional improvement plans, a key area of focus for accredited and non-accredited schools alike.  

In order to provide further guidance to ACCSCT-accredited schools in the cycle of continuous performance improvement, the Commission has partnered with the EAB to make this webinar available for review.

ACCSCT Commission Elects Executive Committee for 2007 -2008

May 9, 2007

According to Section 1.11 of the Commission’s Bylaws “[t]he officers of the Commission shall be elected by the Commission at the last regular Commission meeting of the fiscal year, and shall serve for a term of one year.”  At its May 2007 Commission Meeting in San Francisco, California, the ACCSCT Commission elected its Executive Committee for 2007 – 2008.  The terms of newly elected Executive Committee began on May 8, 2007. The newly elected ACCSCT Executive Committee is as follows:

  • Gery Hochanadel, Ph.D. – School Commissioner – Chairman of the Commission
  • Paul Bott, Ed.D. – Public Commissioner – Vice Chair of the Commission
  • Michael Pugliese – School Commissioner – Secretary of the Commission
  • Jack Forrest – School Commissioner – Treasurer of the Commission

ACCSCT Special Election: School Commissioner

The Commission is pleased to announce that Susan B. Johnson, Gemological Institute of America, has been elected by the ACCSCT membership to serve as a School Commissioner. Johnson's term as a School Commissioner will begin on July 1, 2007 and will finish out an existing term which concludes on June 30, 2008.

Blumenthal, Kaplan Higher Education, and Karen Burgess, Metropolitan Career Center.  Additionally, at its February 2007 meeting, the Commission appointed David Wolf, Ph.D. to the Commission as a Public Commissioner.  Their respective terms as Commissioners will begin on July 1, 2007.

ACCSCT Issues Revised Standards of Accreditation
March 15, 2007

The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology has reviewed all written comments submitted by accredited institutions and other interested parties regarding the revisions to the Standards of Accreditation as proposed in the Commission’s February 15, 2006, September 15, 2006, and December 28, 2006 Call For Comment. The Commission has subsequently voted to adopt the additions and revisions to the Standards of Accreditation in the following areas effective immediately:

  • Rules of Process and Procedure & Restructured Standards of Accreditation
  • Section II (A)(4) – Program Advisory Committee
  • Section III – Educational Administration and Faculty
  • Advertising of Accredited Status
  • Accreditation Fees

ACCSCT to Sponsor First Annual Professional Development Conference
February 1, 2007


The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) announced today that it will sponsor its first Annual Professional Development Conference on October 3-5, 2007 at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco, California.  The theme of the conference, “Setting the Standard for Quality Education – 40 Years of Leadership” commemorates ACCSCT’s 40th anniversary as a recognized national accrediting body. The theme also highlights the focus for the conference: leadership in higher education.

CRNAA Issues a Letter of Support on The Commission on the Future of Education
On September 22, 2006, the Council of Recognized National Accrediting Agencies (CRNAA) sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings in support of the Secretary's Commission on the Future of Higher Education.

ACCSCT Receives Guidance on Externships Regulations

Recently, ACCSCT, along with other member accrediting agencies of the Council for Recognized National Accrediting Agencies (CRNAA), sent a letter to the United States Department of Education requesting guidance concerning the policy interpretation of 34 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 668.5 and the impact of this federal requirement on externships at accredited institutions.

ACCSCT Receives Approval for Expansion of Scope from U.S. Secretary of Education
On May 1, 2006, the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (“ACCSCT”) received approval from the U.S. Secretary of Education, Margaret Spellings, that ACCSCT’s recognition be expanded to the master’s degree level in occupational, trade and technical career areas.

ACCSCT Receives NACIQI Recommendation for Expansion of Scope

On December 7, 2005, the ACCSCT’s Petition for an Expansion of the Scope of Recognition was considered by the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) of the United States Department of Education. Upon a recommendation by the Department’s staff, NACIQI voted to recommend to the U.S. Secretary of Education that ACCSCT’s recognition be expanded to the master’s degree level in occupational, trade and technical career areas. Dept. of Defense Starts Educational Initiative for Wounded Military

The Department of Defense dedicated the Severely Injured Joint Operations Center in early February 2005. Severely injured service members and their spouses have expressed an interest in an opportunity to pursue diploma and certification programs or college degrees that will help prepare them for jobs and careers while they are convalescing, when they return home and after discharge from the military. CHEA Announces New Alliance to Promote Transfer-of-Credit

The Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is inviting nationally and regionally accredited institutions to be a part of the Higher Education Transfer Alliance (HETA). The purpose of HETA is to enhance the ability for students attending institutions that are accredited by agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or CHEA to transfer credits. To learn more about HETA and to complete the application for your institution to become part of this important effort to strengthen transfer-of-credit practice visit CHEA's web site.
